Maggie (Wildfire) Posted: 14 Sep 2010 09:07 AM PDT The Maggie Fire, burning above Springville, has grown to around 40 acres. This fire was ignited by lightning around July 16th on Maggie Mountain. The area is rugged and an attempt to access the fire by ground would be very dangerous. There is a steep cliff (300 - 500 foot) below the fire. The fire spread across a drainage on Monday September 13th and grew an estimated 15 acres. It has stopped burning at the ridgeline and has rock in its path to the north. The location where the fire crossed the drainage had continuous fuel to the ridge. A column of smoke could be seen from Springville and areas around Mountain Home. The fire is surrounded by rocks and light vegetation. This incident is an example of what the Forest Service calls "Use of wildland fire" meaning the management of wildfire to meet objectives in land and resource management plans. Current Situation: Due to steep terrain and a mix of strong afternoon winds, the fire grew intensely. Multiple strike teams of engines, dozers and air support responded immediately to protect structures. Air tanker drops will continue as needed. Life and safety is priority and evacuations were established. A shelter center has been established in Twin Oaks at the community church. A second shelter has been established in Lake Isabella Senior Center.

CanyonFire #Wildfire (Kern County) Canyon Fire has burned 5,100 acres and is 10% contained. 150 residences and 100 outbuildings are threatened.

Fire has reached Black Eagle Peak and is backing down towards town of Bodfish.

The fire is actively burning in brush on the east side of the fire, timber areas are experiencing group torching and crown movement. 
The fire is wind driven and influenced steep terrain; this has resulted in a high rate of spread and spotting.
Evacuations are in effect for the area of Meyers Canyon, south of Bodfish Canyon Rd at the junction of Rocky Rd. Advisory evacuations are in place for Meyers Canyon north of this area and also the community of Havilah. The evacuation center is at the Kern River Valley Veterans/Senior Center, 6405 Lake Isabella Blvd., Lake Isabella.

Canyon Fire is still at 4,000 acres and 10% contained. The fire is moving to the southeast and continued to burn actively through the night. Per the CHP, tavel is not recommended on Caliente Bodfish Road between SR 58 and Lake Isabella due to large amount of fire equipment in the area. Canyon (Wildfire) Posted: 12 Sep 2010 07:42 PM PDT The Canyon Fire was reported at approximately 2:00 p.m. today and is located in the Lower Kern River Canyon, below, (and west) of Lake Isabella. The fire started near Delonegha on the south side of the Lower Kern River. The fire quickly spread to both sides of the Kern River, jumping over the Old Kern Canyon Road and back across Highway 178, resulting in actively burning fire on both sides of the two roads as well. Within an hour the fire spread to over 200 acres calling for evacuations of recreational sites along the Lower Kern River, including Remington Hot Springs, Black Gulch, Mill Creek, Hobo, Sandy Flat and Miracle Day Use area. Several outfitter guide (boating) companies camp sites were also evacuated. Highway 178 is presently CLOSED - one-lane will open tomorrow (Monday, Sept. 13th) at 10:00 a.m.Fire fighters from the US Forest Service, Kern County Fire Department and the Bureau of Land Management (under Unified Command) are battling the blaze as on the ground and in the air...

RETURNING TO YOUR HOME

• Starting at Noon today, residents should go to Skyline College. Enter from Skyline
Boulevard and then turn right. Follow signs to Parking Lot M.
• At that location, we will begin processing and escorting residents
• At Skyline College, residents will find check-in tables and will be asked to show
photo identification. For those without a photo ID, authorities will be able to verify
identification.
• Identification will be confirmed for your privacy and the security of your property
• Residents will go home in stages. This is for the safety, security and privacy of
residents.
• Residents of 111-191 Estates, 200-250 Estate and 881-930 Glenview will enter first.
• Residents at other homes will enter in scheduled stages throughout the day.
• Two wristbands will be issued for each address along with decals for up to two
vehicles. This will help residents with re-entry by their family and friends.
• The decals will be color coded to identify the time you will be allowed to go home.
• Once you have registered you will be scheduled a time and a location to enter your
neighborhood.
• The last scheduled entry time will be residents of Plymouth and the 1100 block of
Vermont at 5:00 p.m.
• Separate information will be prepared for homes in the devastation area. The City
will hold a meeting for the Devastated Home Owners at the San Bruno Senior Center
at 1555 Crystal Springs Road in San Bruno on Monday at 10:00 a.m.
• If you show up at the entry point before your assigned time, you will be turned
away and asked to arrive at the assigned time
• When you arrive home:
o Meet with PG&E staff to re-establish utilities to your home
o Throw away all perishable food (dumpsters provided in the neighborhood and
increased garbage collection has been arranged).

As we continue to work with the local service providers for the benefit of San Bruno residents, the Recreation Center will be open from 9:00am to 6:00pm as a Local Assistance Center at least until Tuesday, September 14th. The LAC includes service agencies for those affected by the fire, such as City of San Bruno, Red Cross, PG&E, Dept of Motor Vehicles, Social Security, County Health and much more.

San Bruno Park School District sites will be open on Monday, September 13. All after-school recreation programs at school sites will be in operation.

All recreation programs conducted in the Recreation Center or in City Park are canceled at least through Tuesday, September 14th.

Buckhorn (Wildfire) Posted: 11 Sep 2010 11:09 AM PDT Buckhorn: (37 34 26.4 x 119 12 1.5; approximately 7100-8000' ele.,Madera Co.) The fire acreage is at 95 acres. The Buckhorn Fire is burning on a S to SW aspect with a varying slope between 20 and 30%. Fire behavior is creeping and smoldering, with low potential for large spread. Average winds are upslope from the S to SW at 3 to 5 mph with varying gust between 8 and 10 mph. The base of the fire is at an elevation of 7100 ft. The fire is predominately in an old growth Red Fir and Mixed Conifer forest, with sporadic stringers of montane brush (manzanita and white thorn) throughout the timber stand. There is minimal scorching to the mature trees. The main carrier for the fire is the needle cast with the 10 and 100hr fuels. Some observed flame lengths in these fuels were .6-18" . The N to NW and the S to SE areas of the fire have more activity and available fuels for growth. The western flank spread has slowed due to meadows.  The 30-inch pipe that had exploded Thursday in a plume of fire. The force of the explosion blew the 40-foot-long pipe, which had been buried four feet below a sidewalk, 100 feet away. Knudson said the agency would be remove the pipe and excavate for other pieces.

Cause: Suspected as a natural gas main pipeline explosion, which erupted in a San Bruno neighborhood  Thursday killing four.
Note: Numerous San Bruno residents had smelled gas for weeks and the leak went unchecked even PG&E and been seen in the area. .

Deaths: Four residents.

Glenview Incident: City of San Bruno, San Mateo County is an urban incident, about 15 acres and 100% of fire contained.
Update: TOWN HALL MEETING on Saturday September 11, 2010 at 2PM
The meeting will be held at the St. Roberts Catholic Church on 1380 Crystal Springs Rd, San Bruno, CA
The result of an explosion, this fire is occurred in a residential neighborhood. Numerous homes have been destroyed or damaged.

• An FMAG has been approved for this incident. This is a local government incident, State and Federal entities will be providing support as requested.
• NTSB Go Team is on scene and in charge of investigation
• Area is being treated as a crime scene.
• 30" Gas Pipeline ruptured was installed in 1956, and was completely blown out of ground during failure and landed on residential street.

Fatalities - 4 - The San Mateo County coroner's office has identified three of the four people killed in Thursday's explosion and fire in San Bruno.
Two of the victims, a mother and daughter, were identified as 44-year-old Jacqueline Greig and 13-year-old Janessa Greig.
Another victim was identified as 20-year-old Jessica Morales.
The coroner's office is still working to identify the fourth victim.

San Bernardino County - TRAIN COLLISION/ENTRAPMENT/ HAZMAT

Train Derailment and Hazardous materials spill in Fontana area of San Bernardino County

A westbound Union Pacific train struck a slower-moving train in the Fontana

area at about 11:55 hours Thursday. Several cars derailed and the locomotive

wound up on top of a freight car. The slower freight train was hauling I-beams

that pierced the locomotive of the faster train, trapping the engineer.
 Injuries: Two railroad employees were injured in the crash. Both men were transported to local hospitals,one with critical injuries and the other with moderate injuries.
Location: Railway parallels the I-10 Freeway.
Closures: At one point the freeway was shut down due to 500 gallon

of antifreeze that leaked from one of the rail cars.
Cause: The cause of the train collision has not yet been determined.
Problems: The wreck alongside eastbound lanes of Interstate 10 at Cherry Avenue created a traffic crush for more than four hours.
Current situation: Eastbound I-10 freeway lanes reopened by 4 a.m. Friday
