The Maggie Fire, burning above Springville, has grown to around 40 acres. This fire was ignited by lightning around July 16th on Maggie Mountain. The area is rugged and an attempt to access the fire by ground would be very dangerous. There is a steep cliff (300 - 500 foot) below the fire. The fire spread across a drainage on Monday September 13th and grew an estimated 15 acres. It has stopped burning at the ridgeline and has rock in its path to the north. The location where the fire crossed the drainage had continuous fuel to the ridge. A column of smoke could be seen from Springville and areas around Mountain Home. The fire is surrounded by rocks and light vegetation. This incident is an example of what the Forest Service calls "Use of wildland fire" meaning the management of wildfire to meet objectives in land and resource management plans.
