FIRE WEATHER WATCH: LOS ANGELES/OXNARD/VENTURA/LPF

POTENTIAL FOR DRY LIGHTNING AND GUSTY OUTFLOW WINDS COMBINED WITH HOT TEMPERATURES AND VERY DRY FUELS WILL BRING INCREASED RISK OF FIRE IGNITIONS AND RAPID FIRE GROWTH.

FIRE WEATHER WATCH IN EFFECT FROM THURSDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH THURSDAY EVENING FOR DRY LIGHTNING AND GUSTY OUTFLOW WINDS FOR THE MOUNTAINS OF LOS ANGELES AND VENTURA COUNTIES AND ANTELOPE VALLEY

DISCUSSION: MONSOONAL MOISTURE WILL BE ON THE INCREASE ON THURSDAY ACROSS SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA. AT THE LEADING EDGE OF THIS MONSOON SURGE MOST OF THE MOISTURE WILL BE FOCUSED AT THE MID LEVELS OF THE ATMOSPHERE WITH FAIRY DRY AIR REMAINING AT LOW LEVELS. AS A RESULT THUNDERSTORMS WILL INITIALLY HAVE LITTLE OR NO RAINFALL WITH THE MAIN THREATS BEING DRY LIGHTNING AND GUSTY OUTFLOW WINDS.
THE POTENTIAL FOR DRY LIGHTNING AND GUSTY OUTFLOW WINDS COMBINED WITH HOT TEMPERATURES AND VERY DRY FUELS WILL BRING INCREASED RISK OF FIRE IGNITIONS AND RAPID FIRE GROWTH. STORMS ARE EXPECTED TO BECOME WETTER LATER THURSDAY NIGHT INTO FRIDAY.

FIRE WEATHER WATCH IN EFFECT FROM THURSDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH THURSDAY EVENING FOR DRY LIGHTNING AND GUSTY OUTFLOW WINDS FOR  VENTURA COUNTY MOUNTAINS / LOS PADRES NATIONAL FOREST-
LOS ANGELES COUNTY MOUNTAINS / ANGELES NATIONAL FOREST- ANTELOPE VALLEY

DISCUSSION:  FIRE WEATHER WATCH IN EFFECT FROM THURSDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH THURSDAY EVENING FOR DRY LIGHTNING AND GUSTY OUTFLOW WINDS FOR THE MOUNTAINS OF LOS ANGELES AND VENTURA COUNTIES AND ANTELOPE VALLEY.
THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN LOS ANGELES/OXNARD HAS ISSUED A FIRE WEATHER WATCH FOR DRY LIGHTNING AND GUSTY OUTFLOW WINDS WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM THURSDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH THURSDAY EVENING.
  • LIGHTNING: POTENTIAL FOR SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS WITH DRY LIGHTNING STRIKES BRINGING VERY LITTLE RAINFALL.
  • OUTFLOW WINDS: GUSTY ERRATIC WINDS TO 50 MPH POSSIBLE NEAR THUNDERSTORMS.
  • TEMPERATURES: HIGHS OVER 100 DEGREES THURSDAY.
  • OUTLOOK: THUNDERSTORMS ARE EXPECTED TO BECOME WETTER LATER THURSDAY NIGHT INTO FRIDAY.
  • IMPACTS: THREAT OF DRY LIGHTNING AND GUSTY OUTFLOW WINDS COMBINED WITH HOT TEMPERATURES AND VERY DRY FUELS WILL INCREASE THE POTENTIAL FOR FIRE IGNITIONS. ANY IGNITIONS THAT DO OCCUR COULD HAVE RAPID SPREAD THAT WOULD LEAD TO A THREAT TO LIFE AND PROPERTY.
A FIRE WEATHER WATCH MEANS THAT THERE IS THE POTENTIAL FOR CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS. THIS IN COMBINATION WITH VERY DRY FUELS COULD CREATE EXTREME FIRE DANGER AND/OR FIRE BEHAVIOR. PLEASE ADVISE THE APPROPRIATE OFFICIALS OR FIRE CREWS IN THE FIELD OF THIS FIRE WEATHER WATCH. LISTEN FOR LATER FORECASTS AND POSSIBLE RED FLAG WARNINGS.

****REMINDER**** Every fire has the ability to be catastrophic. The wildland fire management environment has profoundly changed. Growing numbers of communities, across the nation, are experiencing longer fire seasons; more frequent, bigger, and more severe, fires are a real threat. Be careful with all campfires and equipment.

"I am a firm believer in the people. If given the truth, they can be depended upon to meet any national crisis. The great point is to bring them the real facts, and beer." --Abraham Lincoln
