DISCUSSION: MONSOONAL MOISTURE WILL BE ON THE INCREASE ON THURSDAY ACROSS SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA. AT THE LEADING EDGE OF THIS MONSOON SURGE MOST OF THE MOISTURE WILL BE FOCUSED AT THE MID LEVELS OF THE ATMOSPHERE WITH FAIRY DRY AIR REMAINING AT LOW LEVELS. AS A RESULT THUNDERSTORMS WILL INITIALLY HAVE LITTLE OR NO RAINFALL WITH THE MAIN THREATS BEING DRY LIGHTNING AND GUSTY OUTFLOW WINDS.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN LOS ANGELES/OXNARD HAS ISSUED A FIRE WEATHER WATCH FOR DRY LIGHTNING AND GUSTY OUTFLOW WINDS WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM THURSDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH THURSDAY EVENING.
- LIGHTNING: POTENTIAL FOR SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS WITH DRY LIGHTNING STRIKES BRINGING VERY LITTLE RAINFALL.
- OUTFLOW WINDS: GUSTY ERRATIC WINDS TO 50 MPH POSSIBLE NEAR THUNDERSTORMS.
- TEMPERATURES: HIGHS OVER 100 DEGREES THURSDAY.
- OUTLOOK: THUNDERSTORMS ARE EXPECTED TO BECOME WETTER LATER THURSDAY NIGHT INTO FRIDAY.
- IMPACTS: THREAT OF DRY LIGHTNING AND GUSTY OUTFLOW WINDS COMBINED WITH HOT TEMPERATURES AND VERY DRY FUELS WILL INCREASE THE POTENTIAL FOR FIRE IGNITIONS. ANY IGNITIONS THAT DO OCCUR COULD HAVE RAPID SPREAD THAT WOULD LEAD TO A THREAT TO LIFE AND PROPERTY.
