RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT FROM NOON TODAY TO 10 PM PDT THIS EVENING FOR DRY THUNDERSTORMS FOR FIRE WEATHER ZONE 226
THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN LAS VEGAS HAS ISSUED A RED FLAG WARNING FOR DRY THUNDERSTORMS WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM NOON TODAY TO 10 PM PDT THIS EVENING. THE FIRE WEATHER WATCH IS NO LONGER IN EFFECT.
- AFFECTED AREA IN CALIFORNIA: FIRE WEATHER ZONE 226 OWENSVALLEY/SOUTHERN INYO FOREST.
- TIMING: NOON THURSDAY THROUGH 10 PM THURSDAY EVENING.
- LIGHTNING ACTIVITY LEVEL: 6
- WINDS: SOUTH 10 TO 15 MPH WITH LOCAL UPSLOPE. GUSTS TO 50 MPH WILL BE POSSIBLE WITH STORMS.
- IMPACTS: A THREAT OF FIRE STARTS FROM LIGHTNING WITH LITTLE RAIN AND FIRE SPREAD DUE TO GUSTY WINDS ASSOCIATED WITH STORMS. ALTHOUGH SOME STORMS ARE POSSIBLE LATER THURSDAY NIGHT.
- THROUGH FRIDAY THOSE STORMS SHOULD PRODUCE WETTING RAINS.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS
A RED FLAG WARNING MEANS THAT CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS
ARE EITHER OCCURRING OR ARE IMMINENT. A COMBINATION OF STRONG
WINDS, LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITY AND WARM TEMPERATURES WILL CREATE
EXTREME FIRE GROWTH POTENTIAL.

EASTERN SIERRA SLOPES-OWENS VALLEY - THIS HAZARDOUS WEATHER OUTLOOK IS FOR PORTIONS OF CALIFORNIA.
DAY ONE TODAY AND TONIGHT
A RED FLAG WARNING FOR DRY LIGHTNING HAS BEEN ISSUED FOR THE
OWENS VALLEY AND SOUTHERN INYO FOREST FROM NOON UNTIL 9 PM THIS
EVENING. LIGHTNING AND GUSTY WINDS WILL LIKELY OCCUR WITH
THUNDERSTORMS THROUGH THIS EVENING. THE STORMS WILL LIKELY BECOME
WETTER OVERNIGHT.
DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN - FRIDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY
MOISTURE WILL CONTINUE TO INCREASE INTO FRIDAY LEADING TO AN
INCREASED CHANCE OF THUNDERSTORMS. DRIER AIR WILL START TO MOVE
IN FROM THE WEST SATURDAY THROUGH EARLY NEXT WEEK ALTHOUGH THERE
WILL STILL BE A SLIGHT CHANCE OF THUNDERSTORMS ESPECIALLY OVER THE
EAST SLOPES OF THE SOUTHERN SIERRA NEVADA.

SPOTTER ACTIVATION IS NOT EXPECTED AT THIS TIME. HOWEVER...
SPOTTERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO REPORT ANY SIGNIFICANT WEATHER
CONDITIONS ACCORDING TO STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURES.
