USFA - NFA: Jim Munger, seriously injured by Nitrogen pipe explosion

The Secret List 11-17-10 / 1535 hours
There was a nitrogen explosion at the NFA this afternoon. Initial reports are that the instructor was operating at the simulation lab, pressurizing the dry pipe training system and there was a release.

The instructor, Jim Munger, a well known veteran of the NFA was seriously injured, immediately treated, stabilized and transported. NFA staff have shut the lab down pending a full investigation. Updates to follow.
We wish Jim a successful recovery and have him in our prayers.

****REMINDER**** Every fire has the ability to be catastrophic. The wildland fire management environment has profoundly changed. Growing numbers of communities, across the nation, are experiencing longer fire seasons; more frequent, bigger, and more severe, fires are a real threat. Be careful with all campfires and equipment.

"I am a firm believer in the people. If given the truth, they can be depended upon to meet any national crisis. The great point is to bring them the real facts, and beer." --Abraham Lincoln
