Law enforcement to remember slain Reedley officer
FRESNO, Calif.—Law enforcement officers from around California are gathering at the convention center in Fresno for the funeral of a decorated Reedley police officer killed in a shootout late last month. Officer Javier Bejar was shot in the head on Feb. 25 when he answered a call for backup after an arson suspect opened fire on Fresno County Sheriff's deputies serving a search warrant.
The 28-year-old Bejar lingered on life support for five days. He was the first officer to die in the line of duty in the Reedley department's 100-year history.
On Sunday more than 300 people gathered at the Reedley High School football stadium for a candlelight vigil.
He is scheduled to be buried Monday afternoon at the Reedley Cemetery.
