San Bernardino blaze chars 60 acres
A fire burned about 60 acres in the Sand Canyon area on the north side of San Bernardino and into the foothills Thursday.
About 130 city, Cal Fire and U.S. Forest Service firefighters fought the blaze in light, flashy brush but they expected to fully contain the fire by midnight, said Steve Tracy, San Bernardino City Fire Department spokesman.
No structures were threatened but anxious Del Rosa area neighbors lined East Foothill Drive near Manzanita Drive to watch. The cause of the fire was under investigation.
A newly poured concrete foundation and wood framing are reminders that rebuilding continues in the area hit by the devastating 2003 Old Fire. --Gail Wesson
