SAR: After Search "Gorked" Teen loses car privileges!
Confused teen had apparently swallowed hallucinogenic mushrooms, possibly dropped some acid, got lost and just "thought" his leg was broken so he called mommy.
Leading to full scale successful SAR search...
SANTA CRUZ, Calif. — A mommy's frantic 911 plea for help finding her supposedly injured teen son lost in the Santa Cruz Mountains led to an expensive search that ended with rescuers locating the youth tripping on drugs.
Eighteen-year-old Matthew Rosenberg had used his cellular telephone Monday night to call his mommy and tell her he tripped,(In more ways than one), broke his leg and was lost.
But Cal Fire Capt. Bill Finch says the Los Gatos High School senior idiot didn't break his leg, adding the teen had apparently swallowed hallucinogenic mushrooms, possibly dropped some acid and just "thought" his leg was broken.
Finch says the teen "was really gorked" when rescuers found him standing at the bottom of a ravine. The cost of the search was estimated at up to $10,000.
The teen's father Mark Rosenberg says the boy will be punished, adding "he probably won't get to use the car for a while."

Bobby Wisnouckas and fellow hiker, Steffie, tried to shovel sand on the fire, but the winds were too strong at that altitude and the fire quickly moved to the grass and then to the logs downhill from the stump
Tuesday afternoon, April 29 Apache Fire is reported by Two Pacific Crest trail hikers as a burning stump and is now about 700 Acres.
Rapid ROS, 40 mph winds, smoke, heavy downed timber, moving into brush.
The high ROS and steep terrain have made accessing fire difficult. A hotshot crew and 4 strike teams of CalFire crews (8 crews) are working the fire in very steep terrain today.
Aircraft have been grounded due to high winds and a heavy marine layer limiting visibility.

Fire continues to burn at rapid rates of spread in heavy down logs and timber moving into grass and brush and is a threatening Agua Caliente Reservation, the San Jacinto wilderness, and the Santa Rosa-San Jacinto National Monument. This incident is in deep and inaccessible terrain, with high winds over fire, and is inaccessible to resources due to steep terrain, aircraft have been grounded due to high winds over fire 25 mph plus. fog at lower elevations also grounding aircraft.
CA-SMD-Santa Anita Fire - 584 acres 93% contained
Update: 0700 5-1-08 - News and Notes - Santa Anita Fire (CA-SMD-08-22735) fire has burned 584 acres and is 93 % percent contained . Unified Command with USFS (Fiorella) and Sierra Madre (Heydorf) continues. The fire will be transitioning back to the local district on Friday, May 2nd at 0800. Remaining resources continue to improve line, mop-up, and provide structure protection. With cooler temperatures predicted and good progress made by crews, it is anticipated that containment will be achieved on May 2nd at 1800 hours. Acreage apportionment: USFS=248 acres and Sierra Madre=346 acres.
As containment is achieved and with the cooler weather cooperating heavy demoblization will occur today and tomorrow on the fire.
With cooler temperatures and good progress by fire crews, it is anticipated that the fire will be contained by May 2nd at 6:00 p.m.
Summary
As of Wednesday, April 30, 2008, 6:00 p.m. PST, the Santa Anita Fire has burned 584 acres north of Sierra Madre, CA. Approximately 238 acres are on National Forest System land within the Angeles National Forest, and 346 acres are within the corporate boundary of the City of Sierra Madre (see fire progression map posted to this site).

Summary
The US Forest Service is conducting a prescribe burn in the vicinity of Grizzly Flat near Caldor Road. If conditions are favorable, up to 200 acres may be burned over a two day period on April 30 and May 1. The fire is designed to burn along the ground to remove low growing vegetation, known as Bear Clover, dead branches and other natural debris situated under the trees. Smoke will be visible during the burn. Fire equipment and personnel are on hand during the ignition and patrols will take place following the burn. The prescribe burn is named Last Chance.

INFO: NEU- Auburn - Camp Crews "hands on" exercise
CAL FIRE inmate firefighters will be conducting a "hands on" exercise in preparation for the upcoming fire season today. The exercise will provide an opportunity for fire crews to be evaluated on their firefighting knowledge, ability to perform in a safe manner and on their physical condition. It is vital that crew members acclimate themselves for the warmer weather ahead to reduce the heat related injuries that can occur in the fire environment.
The exercise will begin at 8:00 am in Auburn, beginning at the east end of the Foresthill Bridge. The fire crews will hike into the incident site, construct fire lines, and deploy fire shelters under simulated emergency conditions. CAL FIRE Chief, Randy Smith confirmed, "It is an outstanding opportunity to put the year's training to the test and to gear up both physically and mentally for the ensuing fire season."

This fire began last night and remained quite small, but it is growing and suppression action commencing this early this morning. Incidents is located near Apache Peak , on the eastern most ridge of mountains over looking the desert. Fire is being wind-driven, with ridge top winds in the area measuring approximately 35 mph. It is burning in a mix of timber and brush. Eight CDF Handcrews are ready to be flown into the fire. We have diverted aircraft from the Santa Anita Fire (in Sierra Madre) for this new fire.
