A 2-acre fire destroyed a home and killed two dogs in Wildomar on Tuesday, May 14, fire officials said.
The fire was reported about 2:15 p.m. in the 21900 block of Walnut Street near Orange Street, a Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department news release said.
The blaze also burned two workshop outbuildings, 14 vehicles, a 20-foot travel trailer, two boats and their trailers, seven other miscellaneous trailers and four utility sheds – all on the same property, fire officials said.
Though two pets died, the family that lives in the home escaped safely, fire officials said.
Melody Hendrickson, a fire department spokeswoman, said the dogs killed were outside in the yard.
Fire officials said there was remodeling construction underway at the house that burned.
The cause of the fire was under investigation and it was unclear if it might have been related to the construction.
The fire, which downed power lines and sent up a thick plume of black smoke that could be seen around the southwest Riverside County area, was contained by 3:30 p.m.
One firefighter suffered minor injuries
