CA-SBC-SAR 3 missing hikers found alive on Mount Gorgonio in San Bernardino County #CaSAR

Joy as San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department announced Tuesday that three men have been found alive on Mount Gorgonio, where three hikers have been missing since Saturday.

OCEANSIDE - Three hikers who vanished during a weekend hike in the San Bernardino Mountains have been found safe.

A San Bernardino County sheriff's helicopter crew found the men at about 10:15 a.m. Tuesday in the North Fork Meadows area, at an elevation of more than 6,000 feet.

The Sheriff's Department says Ryan Shankles, David Yoder of Carlsbad and Miguel De La Torre from Oceanside appear to be in good condition although they might have minor hypothermia.

The area had recent rain, some snow flurries and temperatures in the 20s.

The men set out on Sunday, intending a day hike to the top of Mount San Gorgonio, the highest peak in Southern California at around 11,500 feet.

****REMINDER**** Every fire has the ability to be catastrophic. The wildland fire management environment has profoundly changed. Growing numbers of communities, across the nation, are experiencing longer fire seasons; more frequent, bigger, and more severe, fires are a real threat. Be careful with all campfires and equipment.

"I am a firm believer in the people. If given the truth, they can be depended upon to meet any national crisis. The great point is to bring them the real facts, and beer." --Abraham Lincoln
