Man badly burned when tent catches fire

PLEASANT HILL -- A 56-year-old man living outdoors in Pleasant Hill was badly burned when his tent caught fire early Monday, authorities said.

Police found the man lying naked on the side of Taylor Boulevard near Morello Avenue around 4:20 a.m. with severe burns on his legs, arms and torso.

He told officers his tent had caught fire when he lit a candle.

The man was airlifted to the burn unit at UC Davis in critical condition, police said. His name has not been released.

****REMINDER**** Every fire has the ability to be catastrophic. The wildland fire management environment has profoundly changed. Growing numbers of communities, across the nation, are experiencing longer fire seasons; more frequent, bigger, and more severe, fires are a real threat. Be careful with all campfires and equipment.

"I am a firm believer in the people. If given the truth, they can be depended upon to meet any national crisis. The great point is to bring them the real facts, and beer." --Abraham Lincoln
