Permits to cut Christmas holiday trees in national forests surrounding Lake Tahoe will go on sale Nov. 23.
The U.S. Forest Service's Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit will sell a total of 3,000 permits – up to two permits per family – for $10 each at its offices in north and south Lake Tahoe.
Permit holders may choose from a variety of pine, fir or cedar in designated cutting areas and must abide by specific permit conditions. Maps and selection tips will be included.
Permits will be available from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday at the forest supervisor's office, 35 College Drive, South Lake Tahoe, and Wednesday through Friday at the Forest Service office at 855 Alder Ave., Incline Village, Nev.
The last day to purchase a permit at the South Lake Tahoe office is Dec. 24 and the last day in Incline Village is Dec. 21. When winter weather makes driving difficult, people should call the Incline Village office at (775) 831-0914 to make sure it's open, Herron said.

****REMINDER**** Every fire has the ability to be catastrophic. The wildland fire management environment has profoundly changed. Growing numbers of communities, across the nation, are experiencing longer fire seasons; more frequent, bigger, and more severe, fires are a real threat. Be careful with all campfires and equipment.
