CAL FIRE Transports State Christmas Tree to the Capitol

CAL FIRE & DGS offload the State Capitol Christmas Tree
Sacramento - On Wednesday, November 7, the official state Christmas tree was delivered to the California State Capitol in Sacramento. The 50 foot tall White Fir, donated by CAL FIRE from Latour Demonstration State Forest, was transported down Interstate 5 to the State Capitol.

According to the California Department of General Services, who oversees the tree’s placement, once decorated, the tree will contain 10,000 lights and 500 ornaments. In keeping with tradition, the Department of Developmental Services will provide the ornaments, handcrafted by children and adults with developmental disabilities who receive services and support from state developmental centers and 21 nonprofit regional centers. Again this year, ultra-low-wattage LED lights will be used, saving 95 percent of the energy that would be consumed by incandescent bulbs.

The California State Christmas Tree is now on display on the West side of the State Capitol (10th Street, between N and L Streets) in Sacramento. It will undoubtedly bring joy to everyone who visits the capitol this holiday season.

****REMINDER**** Every fire has the ability to be catastrophic. The wildland fire management environment has profoundly changed. Growing numbers of communities, across the nation, are experiencing longer fire seasons; more frequent, bigger, and more severe, fires are a real threat. Be careful with all campfires and equipment.

"I am a firm believer in the people. If given the truth, they can be depended upon to meet any national crisis. The great point is to bring them the real facts, and beer." --Abraham Lincoln
