SANTA ANA WIND EVENT: HIGH WIND WARNING IN EFFECT UNTIL NOON TODAY.

 WINDS HAVE SHIFTED TO NORTHEAST AND THE SANTA ANA WIND EVENT IS IN FULL PROGRESS.

  • HIGH WIND WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL NOON PST TODAY
  • WIND ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM NOON TODAY TO 3 PM PST SATURDAY

SANTA ANA WIND EVENT
 THE STRONGEST WINDS WILL BE THIS MORNING ACROSS THE MOUNTAINS OF EASTERN VENTURA COUNTY AND WESTERN LOS ANGELES COUNTY WITH GUSTY WINDS ACROSS THE REMAINDER OF THE VALLEYS AND VENTURA AND MALIBU COAST.

WINDS ARE EXPECTED TO WEAKEN SOMEWHAT THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING BUT RETURN SATURDAY MORNING THROUGH MID DAY SATURDAY.
 WINDS AND TIMING: NORTHEAST WINDS 25 TO 40 MPH WITH GUSTS TO 60 MPH WILL CONTINUE THROUGH THE MORNING HOURS. THE STRONGEST WINDS WILL BE ACROSS EASTERN VENTURA COUNTY AND WESTERN LOS ANGELES COUNTY. WINDS ARE EXPECTED TO DECREASE TO ADVISORY LEVELS THIS AFTERNOON AND CONTINUE INTO SATURDAY.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS:  A HIGH WIND WARNING MEANS A HAZARDOUS HIGH WIND EVENT IS EXPECTED OR OCCURRING. SUSTAINED WIND SPEEDS OF AT LEAST 40 MPH OR GUSTS OF 58 MPH OR MORE CAN LEAD TO PROPERTY DAMAGE.
Instruction:
 IMPACTS: DRIVING THROUGH THE MOUNTAINS INCLUDING INTERSTATE 5 AND HIGHWAY 14 ESPECIALLY THOSE WITH HIGH PROFILE VEHICLES WILL BE TREACHEROUS DUE TO VERY GUSTY WINDS.
BE ALERT FOR FLYING DEBRIS IF ON THE ROAD, KEEP EYES OPEN FOR FALLEN TREES AND DOWNED POWER LINES.
SECURE ALL DOORS AND WINDOWS AND STAY INDOORS IF POSSIBLE.
A WIND ADVISORY MEANS THAT WINDS OF 35 MPH OR GREATER ARE EXPECTED. WINDS THIS STRONG CAN MAKE DRIVING DIFFICULT ESPECIALLY FOR HIGH PROFILE VEHICLES. USE EXTRA CAUTION.
