Update: 1700hrs - 160 Acres, 50% contained as of 7:00 pm. Fire crews will continue mopping up the fire tonight and throughout tomorrow. No structures are threatened by the fire, and there is no active flame front at this time. 296 firefighters are assigned to the fire (23 engines, 14 handcrews and 3 water tenders). The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Update: 1315hrs -AA Reports 175 acres, Right Flank "Fairly Cold", IC requesting 2 Hot Shot Crews and 3 Closest Cal Fire Crews reports veg at head of canyon thinning out. 3/4 up ridge with retardant.Update: 1315hrs - DIV Z reports "Slow Going" on his hose lay. Expecting possible wind shift later this afternoon. Could cause problems
Update: 1250hrs - IC asking for 5 additional type 3's, 2 WT's, 2 crews, 2 helo's and 2 fixed wing, 150 Acres on SRA... Still Threat to CNF

How fires get their names

Every year in California thousands of wildfires start throughout the state. In most cases, the dispatch center sending the initial resources to a wildland fire will designate a name for the fire, but the first on scene engine or fire official can also name the incident. Fires are usually named for the area in which they start – a geographical location, local landmark, street, lake, mountain, peak, etc. Quickly naming the fire provides responding fire resources with an additional locater, and allows fire officials to track and prioritize incidents by name. For example during the Southern California Fire Siege of 2003, the largest wildland fire in California history, the Cedar Fire in San Diego County, was named after the Cedar Creek Falls area where it started. The destructive Old Fire, which burned during the same time period in San Bernardino County, was named after the road along which it started - Old Waterman Canyon Road.

We have over 4,000 members within CAL FIRE and CAL FIRE is associated with the California Professional Firefighters (CPF) and the International Association of Firefighters (IAFF).
