SAN FRANCISCO — Authorities are trying to determine who set fire to a large, fabric pink triangle constructed each year as part of San Francisco’s gay pride celebration.

San Francisco police say road flares were used to char a section of the triangle.

The blaze was reported at about 5 a.m. near Christmas Tree Point Road and was extinguished about 30 minutes later. A 25-by-30 foot area was damaged, she said.

A pink triangle is an important symbol of the gay rights movement – it was originally used in Nazi concentration camps to identify gay men during World War II.
