News and Notes: California Fire Situation 07-20-09

Type I IMT - National Rotation

Southern California area - GACC OSCC

Forks Fire CA-INF-00875; Light rain fell on the fire late yesterday afternoon causing the relative humidity to remain high throughout the night, so the fire did not grow significantly.
Woychak’s Type II Team took command of the fire at 0600 hours. The fire has burned 2,500 acres and is 50% contained.

Mandatory evacuation remains in effect for all campgrounds, resorts, marinas, and pack stations in the Bishop Creek drainage, as well a the residential communities of Aspendell and South Fork. Starlite remains under voluntary evacuation. Residents who leave Starlite will be allowed back in if they have proof of residency and have a reason for returning home.

The Evacuation Center in Bishop has been re-located to Pine Street School.

This morning between the hours of 10:00 and 12:00 am, campers will be escorted in to the campgrounds that they were evacuated from in order to retrieve their belongings. All must be back out of the canyon by 1:00 pm. Fire managers and the Inyo County Sheriff’s Department will be evaluating the situation this afternoon and will attempt to make an announcement by 5:00 this evening regarding whether or not the evacuation will be lifted tomorrow.

The Martin Mars Air Tanker based at Lake Elsinore is operational today.

Northern California area - GACC ONCC -
The GACC had over 35 initial attack fire today, burning a couple hundred acres. Hot, dry conditions should persist for the next week
Update:1830hrs- CA-KNF-Tenant -CA-KNF is reported at 3,120 acres with 10 percent containment. The fire burned actively today.
07/20/09 -1600hrs New acreage is 3100+ and burning well.
07/19/09 -1815-
Update on CA-KNF, Tennant, 100 acres with 15 percent containment and a moderate rate of spread.
Update:1830hrs- Backbone Incident, CA-SRF/SHF/KNF is currently 6,324 acres with 80 percent containment.
The Backbone Incident, CA-SRF/SHF/KNF, is 65 percent contained at 6,324 acres.
The Mammoth Incident, CA-NEU, is 100 percent contained at 643 acres.
The Backbone Incident, CA-SRF/SHF/KNF, is 60 percent contained at 6,324 acres.
No lightning occurred in the GACC within the last 24 hours.
