MCI KERN COUNTY - MVA 27 INJURED

A runaway truck struck a number of vehicles on the I-5 near the Lebec exit, Wednesday afternoon.

The Kern County Sheriff's Department is on the scene. Authorities are now reporting there have been no fatalities. Approximately 27 people have been injured, according to L.A. County Fire.

According to CHP, the truck may have suffered from brake failure. The vehicles were spread over approximately 1 mile stretch of northbound Interstate 5 between Fort Tejon and Grapevine. The location is near the Lebec exit.

There have been reports the truck hit about seven vehicles, including a passenger van that overturned. The van may have had as many as 15 people on board.

Several air ambulances are on the scene.

The northbound 5 Freeway was shut down due to the accident. However, as of 3:30 p.m., the northbound I-5 was reopened.
