LAPD: Suspicious package gets robotic exam

Box forces evacuation at LAPD Harbor Division

The Los Angeles Police Department's Harbor Division was evacuated for nearly three hours Tuesday while the bomb squad investigated a suspicious package.

Officer Ana Aguirre said the call came in just after noon about a box left in the lobby of the station at 221 N. Bayview Ave., Wilmington.

The station was evacuated "as a precaution," Aguirre said, while an X-ray machine on a robot was sent in.

The box's contents were determined to be harmless, and everyone returned just after 2:40 p.m., Aguirre said.

****REMINDER**** Every fire has the ability to be catastrophic. The wildland fire management environment has profoundly changed. Growing numbers of communities, across the nation, are experiencing longer fire seasons; more frequent, bigger, and more severe, fires are a real threat. Be careful with all campfires and equipment.

"I am a firm believer in the people. If given the truth, they can be depended upon to meet any national crisis. The great point is to bring them the real facts, and beer." --Abraham Lincoln
