Cal Fire will be conducting a large prescribed burn on Mt. Hamilton today and tomorrow.
This prescribed burn is being conducted to protect against large damaging wildland fires, enhance wildlife habitats and improve the local watersheds.
Location: Blue Oak Ranch Reserve - Mt. Hamilton foothills, northeast of Gilroy, north of Joseph Grant County Park, about five miles east of San Jose
Planned actions: Wednesday three acres to be fired off, and Thursday a large planned prescribed burn of five hundred acres of wildland located on the Blue Oak Ranch Reserve will be ignited.
Weather: With a favorable weather forecast, Bay Area Air Quality Management District gave Cal Fire permission to conduct the prescribed burn.
Smoke column should be visible to most areas of the county and possibly throughout the Bay Area.
Note: The Blue Oak Reserve is owned by the University of California, Berkeley.
