CA-SHF- Elmore Fire - 450 acres with 15% containment

Evacuations ordered near Lakehead

Update 1500hrs 09-08-08 - Mandatory evacuation order came down around 9 a.m.
Including mandatory evacuation orders for Statton, Wintton, Yurok, Canouck, Lundgren Mountain and Solus Campground roads, as well as Pitt Place and Klamath Court
Evacuation advisories, warning people to be ready to evacuate, are in place for Old Mill, Tomahawk, Long Tom, Tom Head, Rodgers Ridge, Antler View, Matqua, Salt Creek and Kamloop roads.

Currently two helicopters, 25 fire engines, five 20-person hand crews, five water tenders and five bulldozers working fire.
The SHF Elmore fire is estimated to be 450 acres with 15% containment.
Mandatory evacuations in place for private inholdings at Salt Creek and Gregory Creek.
Structures threatened.
Fire is ice capping and there is good potential in the I-5 canyon.
Union Pacific Railroad has stopped all rail traffic in the area.

Location: Shasta-Trinity National Forest, Shasta County - North of Redding along salt creek, Lakehead area. - The fire is burning west of Gregory Creek Road and north of Lower Salt Creek Road. Gregory Creek Road is an I-5 frontage road.
IC: Nor Cal IMT Team 1 (Swartzlander) assuming command at SHF HQ at 1300 tomorrow
Cause:
IA: Air Attack reporting 8-10 Acres, SW wind @ 5mph, spotting across railroad tracks.
Resources: 168 Personnel, 2 Local Gov Bravo strike teams ordered from Shasta Co. 3150B & 3151B for structure protection.
Current Size: 450+ acres
Percent contained: 15%
Structures Threatened: 20 residences, 2 commercial buildings - Major north/south railroad line threatened and closed.
Fire behavior: Slope driven fire pushed by normal westerly flow. Gusts to 11 mph. Fire behavior included long range spotting.
Fuels : Dense brush and scattered oak/grey pine.
