August 26 , 2008

Strong winds in the Great Basin caused significant fire behavior on several large fires yesterday. The East Slide Rock Ridge in Nevada gained more than 13,000 acres, and the South Barker fire in Idaho burned 5,515 acres. Four new large fires were reported in Colorado, and one each in Montana, Nevada, New Jersey, and Utah. Firefighters contained two large fires, one each in Montana and Oregon.

Weather Discussion: Dry and windy weather will continue today over portions of the Great Basin, Wyoming and Montana. Gusty winds and low humidity is also on tap for northern California and Minnesota. Heavy rainfall will continue across the Southeast.

Bear Wallow Complex (Klamath National Forest): 44,522 acres at 62 percent contained. This complex of three fires is 13 miles southeast of Happy Camp. Minimal fire activity was reported.

Iron and Alps Complexes (Shasta-Trinity National Forest): 105,325 acres at 94 percent contained. This complex of three fires is one mile north of Junction City. Numerous structures remain threatened.

Panther (Klamath National Forest): 48,108 acres at 75 percent contained. This fire is 14 miles southwest of Happy Camp. Fire activity was minimal.

Siskiyou/ Blue 2 Complex (Klamath National Forest): 79,768 acres at 83 percent contained. This complex consists of both the Siskiyou and Blue 2 complexes. The complex is 18 miles southwest of Happy Camp. Cultural sites remain threatened.

Tehipite (Sequoia and King Canyon National Park): 1,192 acres at 10 percent contained. This fire was previously reported as a confine/contain incident. It is 20 miles northeast of Dunlap.

NEW Mayberry (Little Snake Field Office, Bureau of Land Management): 8,000 acres at zero percent contain. This fire is 32 miles northwest of Craig. Structures and oil and gas lines are threatened. Evacuations are in effect.
NEW Lone (Moffat County FD): 700 acres at 15 percent contain. This fire is 15 miles north of Elk Springs. Structures and power lines are threatened.
NEW Prong (Moffat County FD): 4,600 acres at 80 percent contain. This fire is 23 miles northwest of Craig. Structures and oil and gas lines are threatened. Road closures are in effect.
NEW Jordan (White River Field Office, Bureau of Land Management): 350 acres at zero percent contain. This fire is seven miles northwest of Meeker.

NEW Irish (Ely Field Office, Bureau of Land Management): 450 acres at zero percent contained. This fire is 45 miles west of Caliente.
East Slide Rock Ridge (Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest): 14,489 acres at zero percent contained. This fire is 15 miles southeast of Jarbidge. Active fire behavior was reported. Structures are threatened and area closures are in effect.

Clackamas River Complex (Mt Hood National Forest): 175 acres at 75 percent contained. This complex of 30 fires is 26 miles southeast of Estacada. No new information was provided.

Harvey Lake (Warm Springs Agency, Bureau of Indian Affairs): 152 acres at 99 percent contained. This fire is 20 miles west of Madras. This will be the last report unless new information is provided.

Lonesome Complex (Rogue River National Forest): 512 acres at 70 percent contained. This complex of three fires is 20 miles northeast of Prospect. Fire activity was minimal.

Middle Fork Complex (Willamette National Forest): 218 acres at 35 percent contained. This complex of 48 fires is burning in Lane County. Moderate activity was reported. Light precipitation occurred over the fire yesterday.

North Fork (Umpqua National Forest): 892 acres at 50 percent contained. This complex of nine is 26 miles northeast of Glide. Structures are threatened.

Summit Springs Complex (Sisters Unit, Oregon Department of Forestry): 1,973 acres at 95 percent contained. This complex of three fires is nine miles north of Sisters. Minimal fire behavior was reported.

Wild Rivers Complex (Siskiyou National Forest): 800 acres at 60 percent contained. This complex is 17 miles southwest of Grants Pass.

Bridge Creek (Ochoco National Forest): This fire was contained at 4,891 acres.
Ochoco Fire Use (Ochoco National Forest): 1,620 acres. This fire is 10 miles southwest of Dayville. These two wildland fire use incidents are being managed to accomplish natural resource objectives. Reduction in acreage is due to more accurate mapping.

NEW Corner Canyon (Richfield Field Office, Bureau of Land Management): 600 acres at zero percent contained. This fire is four miles west of Draper. Strong winds pushed this fire yesterday. Structures are threatened and evacuations are in effect.
Lonesome Pine (Richfield Field Office, Bureau of Land Management): 560 acres at 30 percent contained. This fire is four miles north of Eureka. Active fire behavior with uphill runs was reported.

Washington

Jack Creek (Okanogan/Wenatchee National Forest): 1,058 acres at zero percent contained. This fire is located 13 miles southwest of Leavenworth. No new information was provided.
