It is with deep regret that the NBFA must announce the passing of a fellow firefighter. Firefighter Kevin Pryor passed away this morning at 7am at Western Medical Center in Santa Ana, California, surrounded by many of his co-workers from the NBFD.

Kevin had recently returned from a Strike Team Deployment at the Humbolt Fire in Northern California. Kevin passed away from a brain aneurysm that resulted in a severe brain hemorrhage.

Kevin's family is honoring his wishes by participating in an organ procurement program.

Memorial service: Will be held in Westlake Village at a date to be determined as per the wishes of his family.
This may possibly occur next week and all interested public safety personnel are welcome to attend.
We are receiving support from numerous surrounding agencies and we are overwhelmed with the outpour of kindness and sympathy.

Please pray for Kevin's family as we surely will be. God bless you, our brother

NEWPORT BEACH – A young Newport Beach firefighter died today of a brain aneurysm, barely one day after he returned from duty fighting Northern California wildfires, officials said.

A friend found him unconscious at his Irvine home about noon Monday and called paramedics, who took Pryor to Western Medical Center-Santa Ana.

Authorities are looking into whether the death is related to Pryor's deployment along the fire lines, said David Mais, Newport Beach's deputy fire chief.

"We are still all shocked and incredibly saddened for Kevin's family," Mais said. "We consider ourselves family too in the Fire Department. All of our guys and ladies are completely devastated by the news."

****REMINDER**** Every fire has the ability to be catastrophic. The wildland fire management environment has profoundly changed. Growing numbers of communities, across the nation, are experiencing longer fire seasons; more frequent, bigger, and more severe, fires are a real threat. Be careful with all campfires and equipment.

"I am a firm believer in the people. If given the truth, they can be depended upon to meet any national crisis. The great point is to bring them the real facts, and beer." --Abraham Lincoln
