Fire Activity: Firefighters observed isolated single and small group tree torching, backing, creeping, and smoldering.
Events: Road closures remain in effect for portions of M-2 and M-4 roads to the fire area. Fire crews continue to make good progress on direct fire containment line construction on the northwest side of the fire. On the southwestern perimeter of the fire, firefighters continue burning operations to strengthen containment lines and protect structures in the area. Limited access and very steep terrain calls for a combination of indirect and direct strategies in the Thomes Creek area.
Actions Planned: Fire crews on the north, east, south, and southwest sides of the fire will continue to hold containment lines, mop-up the fire perimeter, and will initiate fire suppression rehabilitation along the indirect fireline. Firefighters in the southwest side of the fire will also complete burnout of interior islands of fuel to strengthen the fire containment line. Fire crews will continue to construct direct containment lines into the Thomes Creek drainage and hold, improve, and mop-up already completed line on the west flank of the fire.
Closures: Portions of the M-2 and M-4 roads are closed to the fire area.
Evacuations: None
Remarks: NorCal Team II continues to manage the fire for the Mendocino National Forest. CalFire remains an active cooperator.
