HazMat: Spill, Fuel/Oil Pipeline hit by Tug boat

At about 12:20 hrs a Fuel/Oil Pipeline at the Avon wharf at Tesoro's Golden Eagle refinery was hit by Tug boat Independence.
The boat struck three pipelines at the Avon wharf at Tesoro's Golden Eagle refinery on the southern shore of the Carquinez Strait, Damaging 200 feet of static pipe and rupturing one of the 12" diameter pipes and releasing approx 1500 gallons of residual Gasoline/Diesel fuel held in the pipe system which then spilled into the Suisan bay.
Note: The static line was not actively transferring fuel at the time
Resources: Two Coast Guard boats, and a helicopter from the Vallejo station and Refinery crews are working to contain spill into San Francisco Bay.
Coast Guard specialists in pollution response have also been dispatched from Novato.
Closure: Carquinez Strait channel closed to water traffic, Vessel traffic in the area, about 1 1/2 miles east of the Benicia-Martinez Bridge, has been suspended temporarily until authorities determine the impact of the spill on the environment, authorities said.

How fires get their names

Every year in California thousands of wildfires start throughout the state. In most cases, the dispatch center sending the initial resources to a wildland fire will designate a name for the fire, but the first on scene engine or fire official can also name the incident. Fires are usually named for the area in which they start – a geographical location, local landmark, street, lake, mountain, peak, etc. Quickly naming the fire provides responding fire resources with an additional locater, and allows fire officials to track and prioritize incidents by name. For example during the Southern California Fire Siege of 2003, the largest wildland fire in California history, the Cedar Fire in San Diego County, was named after the Cedar Creek Falls area where it started. The destructive Old Fire, which burned during the same time period in San Bernardino County, was named after the road along which it started - Old Waterman Canyon Road.
