A fire breaks out at a local packaging company.
Firefighters responded to a blaze just after noon on Sunday at Central Coast Packaging in Santa Maria. That is in the 2900 block of Industrial Parkway.
Smoke could be seen from as far away as Nipomo.
A Santa Barbara County Fire spokesperson says Waller Park was evacuated as a precaution due to the smoke.
The spokesperson says 100 square feet of wooden palettes and wax-coated boxes burned in the fire.
Firefighters say the wax made the fire hard to put out.
"These boxes are wax impregnated and used for agriculture, for strawberries and those kinds of things. So they burn really well," explained Dan Orr, Santa Maria City Fire Department spokesperson.
Crews still don't know how the fire began. They spent several hours cleaning up the debris.
Luckily, nobody was injured.
According to a Comcast Cable spokesperson, customers in Santa Maria and Lompoc lost TV and Internet service because of the fire.
It damaged a main transmission line connecting Santa Maria with the Bay Area.
It's unknown how many customers were affected.
At least 240 people lost power as well when the fire burned a power pole.
