CAL FIRE Lassen-Modoc Unit has rescinded the burn ban

Effective Monday, Oct. 8, at 8 a.m., the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) Lassen-Modoc Unit has rescinded the burn ban in State Responsibility Areas of Lassen, Modoc and Plumas Counties. Burn permits are required until the end of the declared fire season and may be obtained at any local CAL FIRE station.

The following are some important things to remember regarding residential burning:
Residents may be held civilly and criminally liable for any fires that escape their control.

Burning can only be done on permissive burn days. To find out if it is a permissive burn day, contact your local Air Pollution Control District:

Lassen County - 251-8110
Modoc County - 233-6419
Northern Sierra Air Quality Management District (includes Chester, Quincy and Plumas County) - 283-4654.

Only natural vegetative material such as leaves, pine needles and tree trimmings may be burned.
Household garbage may NOT be burned.
Do not burn on windy days.
You cannot burn in a burn barrel unless you have received authorization/permit from your APCD.
You must have a signed permit in your possession while you are burning and you are responsible for maintaining control of your fire at all times. (Beginning May 1 through the end of declared fire season.)

For more information on burn permit requirements, contact your local fire department or visit the Web site at cdflmu.org or fire.ca.gov.

****REMINDER**** Every fire has the ability to be catastrophic. The wildland fire management environment has profoundly changed. Growing numbers of communities, across the nation, are experiencing longer fire seasons; more frequent, bigger, and more severe, fires are a real threat. Be careful with all campfires and equipment.

"I am a firm believer in the people. If given the truth, they can be depended upon to meet any national crisis. The great point is to bring them the real facts, and beer." --Abraham Lincoln
