Burn Restrictions Easing Up in eastern Nevada County

California Department of Forestry and Fire (CAL FIRE) Unit Chief, Brad Harris has declared that the suspension of all residential burning in the area of Cisco Grove east to the Nevada Stateline will be lifted effective October 9th, 2007 at 8:00 am. The cooler weather accompanied by wetting rains and snow have reduced the extreme fire hazard.

All burning must be done with a valid burn permit and only on permissive burn days as determined by the local Air Pollution Control District. (APCD) Burn hours are "daylight hours only" to minimize smoke complaints due to nighttime inversions. Those needing a burn permit should go to their local fire station to obtain one. For specific times of burning, call (530) 582-1027.

The following are burn permit requirements for burning debris. By following the requirements you then will have a better chance to avoid the consequences of an escaped debris pile.

- No burning shall occur unless weather conditions, particularly wind, are such that burning can be considered safe.

- Maximum pile size 4 foot by 4 foot diameter.

- Clear all flammable material and vegetation within 10 feet of the outer edge of pile.

- Keep a water supply close to the burning site.

- An adult must be attendance with a shovel until the fire is dead out.

Keep in mind, Fire season is not over yet! The remaining areas of Nevada-Yuba-Placer counties still need to receive a significant rainfall before we lift the burn ban in those areas. So please be extra cautious while burning. These early rain storms have given a false impression to the public about fire safety.

CAL FIRE will maintain and staff an appropriate level of fire fighting resources until that significant rainfall. In the event the climate and fuels change and the potential for wildfires increase, CAL FIRE will reactivate additional fire fighting resources and firefighters to provide an appropriate level of protection based upon the threat potential.

If you are in violation of the terms of your permit and your fire escapes, you could be held responsible for suppression costs and damages to another person's property as well as being issued a citation.

****REMINDER**** Every fire has the ability to be catastrophic. The wildland fire management environment has profoundly changed. Growing numbers of communities, across the nation, are experiencing longer fire seasons; more frequent, bigger, and more severe, fires are a real threat. Be careful with all campfires and equipment.
