-VENTURA COUNTY MOUNTAINS / LOS PADRES NATIONAL FOREST-LOS ANGELES COUNTY MOUNTAINS / ANGELES NATIONAL FOREST-

.RELATIVE HUMIDITIES...TEN PERCENT OR LESS WILL PERSIST THROUGH WEDNESDAY EVENING. THERE IS A CHANCE THE EXTREMELY DRY CONDITIONS WILL PERSIST THROUGH THE WEEK AND EXTENDING THE WARNING WILL THEN OCCUR. AFTERNOON TEMPERATURES 10 TO 15 DEGREES ABOVE SEASONAL NORMALS WILL PERSIST TODAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY. WITH A BROAD NEARLY STATIONARY RIDGE OF HIGH PRESSURE CENTERED OVER THE AREA LOCAL UPSLOPE AND UPVALLEY WINDS WITH GUSTS AROUND 20 MPH WILL OCCUR IN THE AFTERNOON WITH DOWNSLOPE AND DOWNVALLEY WINDS OVERNIGHT. ...RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT UNTIL 8 PM PDT WEDNESDAY FOR PROLONGED SINGLE DIGIT RELATIVELY HUMIDITIES... THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN LOS ANGELES/OXNARD HAS ISSUED A RED FLAG WARNING... WHICH IS IN EFFECT UNTIL 8 PM PDT WEDNESDAY. THE FIRE WEATHER WATCH IS NO LONGER IN EFFECT. SINGLE DIGIT HUMIDITIES WILL PERSIST THROUGH WEDNESDAY EVENING WITH LITTLE OR NO OVERNIGHT RECOVERIES. HIGH TEMPERATURES WILL RANGE 5 TO 10 DEGREES ABOVE SEASONAL NORMAL TODAY.

A RED FLAG WARNING MEANS THAT CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS ARE EITHER OCCURRING NOW...OR WILL SHORTLY. A COMBINATION OF LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITY... AND WARM TEMPERATURES WILL CREATE EXTREME FIRE GROWTH POTENTIAL. PLEASE ADVISE THE APPROPRIATE OFFICIALS OR FIRE CREWS IN THE FIELD OF THIS RED FLAG WARNING.

How fires get their names

Every year in California thousands of wildfires start throughout the state. In most cases, the dispatch center sending the initial resources to a wildland fire will designate a name for the fire, but the first on scene engine or fire official can also name the incident. Fires are usually named for the area in which they start – a geographical location, local landmark, street, lake, mountain, peak, etc. Quickly naming the fire provides responding fire resources with an additional locater, and allows fire officials to track and prioritize incidents by name. For example during the Southern California Fire Siege of 2003, the largest wildland fire in California history, the Cedar Fire in San Diego County, was named after the Cedar Creek Falls area where it started. The destructive Old Fire, which burned during the same time period in San Bernardino County, was named after the road along which it started - Old Waterman Canyon Road.
