July 22, 2007 6:00 AM
CALAVERAS - A 200-acre fire burned near the San Joaquin County line in Calaveras County Saturday evening, according to a spokeswoman with the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.
A cause for the fire was not known. Two helicopters, two bulldozers, 17 fire engines and two strike teams were dispatched to the fire that was reported about 5 p.m.
The fire burned near Highway 26 and Wimer Road in an area near the Ridge at Trinitas golf course. A Cal Fire representative was unable to confirm if the fire was on the golf course, which was built privately and is seeking permits to add resort living areas.
Fred Hovey, who lives near the golf course, said the fire was burning on the golf course and that he saw a building on fire there."

****REMINDER**** Every fire has the ability to be catastrophic. The wildland fire management environment has profoundly changed. Growing numbers of communities, across the nation, are experiencing longer fire seasons; more frequent, bigger, and more severe, fires are a real threat. Be careful with all campfires and equipment.
