CA-LPF- La Brea - Wildland Fire(Chaparral) 10,544 acres, 0%

LCES - FIRE BEHAVIOR WILL MOST LIKELY BE EXTREME TODAY WITH PREDICTED HIGH TEMPERATURES AND LOWERING RELATIVE HUMIDITY.

LOS PADRES NATIONAL FOREST - WILDLAND FIRE - RAPID RATE OF SPREAD, LONG RANGE SPOTTING, AND ASSOCIATED EXTREME FIRE BEHAVIOR. THE FIRE WENT FROM 150 TO 1200 ACRES IN LESS THAN 3 HOURS.

Update: 08-09 - 2100 - NWS is reporting NOAA personnel are enroute to the assist with the on-site weather.
Update: 08-09 1930 - Base camp for this incident is being set up at the Santa Maria Elk's Rodeo Grounds (Officially known as the Elks-Unocal Events Center)

Fuels: The Chaparral brush fueling the quick spreading fire in the San Rafael Wilderness is approximately 60-80 years old.
News and Notes: 1800 - LA BREA CA-LPF-002631 Incident Organization T/3 IC (Andrea) Transition to a Type 1 CIIMT Team #3 (Pincha-Tulley) this evening. Fire is burning in 6'foot Chaparral and brush with nor fire history recorded in this area for 20+ years acreage reported as 10,544 ACRES 0% contained as reflected on perimeter map provided to Southern Operations Calif. by AA Fire is burning in steep, inaccessible terrain in the San Rafael wilderness. Heavy fuels, long range spotting and moderate to rapid rates of spread. Major runs were observed during the day. Moderate to rapid rate of spread, slope and fuel driven. There were reports that the fire slopped over Sierra Madre Rd. but was pick up by ground resources as fire burned approximately 7500+ acres during the operational period. Extreme fire behavior was observed. The Sierra Madre ridge road remains closed. Campgrounds in the area have been closed. Evacuations are complete. Resources are arriving and ICP is being established. 12 adjacent camp ground were evacuated yesterday and remain closed to hikers and the public. There are 230 CALFIRE overhead assigned with a total of 644 personnel on scene. The Los Padres National Forest was working to issue a closure of the fire area . La Brea ICP is located at Preisker Park 2301 Preisker Lane Santa Maria, Ca 93458.
Update: 08-09 18:00 - MODERATE TO RAPID RATE OF SPREAD, SLOPE AND FUEL DRIVEN. FIRE BURNED APPROXIMATELY 7500+ ACRES DURING THE OPERATIONAL PERIOD. EXTREME FIRE BEHAVIOR WAS OBSERVED.

Update: 08-09 0600 hotlist -Link - Fire reported at 2500 acres. air attack doubled up order for air tankers for tomorrow. tankers in the air at 0800. CA-IMT #3 (Pinch-Tulley) has been assigned. La Brea ICP is located at Preisker Park 2301 Preisker Lane Santa Maria, Ca 93458.

News and Notes: OSCC - 0830 - La Brea CA-LPF-002631 Fire is now 1,300 acres with 0 present containment. Incident Commander is Jamie Copple, a Type 1 CIIMT Pincha-Tulley has been mobilized to the Incident. Values at risk are the San Rafael Wilderness, developed campgrounds, valuable watershed and cultural resources. Fire is burning in steep, inaccessible terrain in the San Rafael wilderness. Rapid rates of spread were observed. The fire went from 150 acres to 1200 acres in less than 3 hours, along with long range spotting and associated extreme fire behavior. La Brea ICP is located at Preisker Park 2301 Preisker Lane Santa Maria, Ca 93458.

Morning update in progress....

The La Brea Fire, which started yesterday at 2:50 pm, continues to burn in an area of the San Rafael Wilderness that is very steep and difficult to reach on the ground.

Located in Owl Canyon area which is approximately 10 miles due east of Tepusquet Peak and is burning in a south easterly direction.

Fire Behavior: The fire pushed out in all directions last night and major runs as well as spotting were observed.

Significant Events: No action was taken during the evening due to the lack of an anchor point, inaccessable terrain and extreme fire behavior.
