RED FLAG WARNING: MONO-EASTERN ALPINE COUNTIES-EASTERN LASSEN COUNTY-WESTERN NEVADA SIERRA FRONT #CAWx


Red Flag Warning - Northern California

The National Weather Service - Eureka has issued a Red Flag Warning for high based dry thunderstorms and gusty outflow winds in effect from 1400 Friday through 0500 Saturday for fire weather zones 203 and 204. 

A RED FLAG WARNING MEANS THERE IS HIGH CONFIDENCE THAT CRITICAL
FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS WILL OCCUR.

HIGH PRESSURE WILL SETTLE OVER NEVADA AND REMAIN THROUGH THE
WEEKEND. TEMPERATURES WILL BE WELL ABOVE NORMAL WITH MOISTURE
SLOWLY WORKING ITS WAY NORTH INTO THE SIERRA AND WESTERN NEVADA.
ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS ARE EXPECTED TO BECOME MORE NUMEROUS OVER
THE WEEKEND. THE STORMS WILL BEGIN DRY BECOMING WETTER BY SUNDAY.

...FIRE WEATHER WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM SATURDAY EVENING
THROUGH SUNDAY EVENING FOR THUNDERSTORMS AND STRONG OUTFLOW WINDS
FOR MUCH OF THE EASTERN SIERRA AND WESTERN NEVADA..

* AFFECTED AREA...FIRE ZONE 270 SURPRISE VALLEY CALIFORNIA..
  FIRE ZONE 273 MONO-EASTERN ALPINE COUNTIES...FIRE ZONE 278
  EASTERN LASSEN COUNTY...FIRE ZONE 450 WESTERN NEVADA SIERRA
  FRONT...FIRE ZONE 458 NORTHERN WASHOE COUNTY AND FIRE ZONE 459
  MINERAL AND SOUTHERN LYON COUNTIES.

* THUNDERSTORMS...ISOLATED DRY THUNDERSTORMS FRIDAY AFTERNOON AND
  EVENING WEST OF HIGHWAY 395 WILL BECOME MORE NUMEROUS SATURDAY
  AFTERNOON ACROSS THE REGION. STORMS MAY CONTINUE OVERNIGHT INTO
  SUNDAY MORNING. A TRANSITION TO A MIX OF WET AND DRY STORMS IS
  LIKELY SUNDAY HOWEVER FAST STORM MOVEMENTS MAY STILL RESULT IN
  NEW FIRE STARTS.

* OUTFLOW WINDS...GUSTS TO 55 MPH ARE POSSIBLE ESPECIALLY ON
  FRIDAY OR SATURDAY. OUTFLOWS COULD EXTEND UPWARDS OF 20 MILES
  AWAY FROM STORM CELLS.

* IMPACTS...LIGHTNING MAY CREATE NEW FIRE STARTS AND COMBINE
  WITH STRONG OUTFLOW WINDS TO PRODUCE RAPID FIRE GROWTH. STRONG
  AND ERRATIC OUTFLOW WINDS COULD IMPACT AIRBORNE FIRE
  SUPPRESSION OPERATIONS.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS..

A RED FLAG WARNING MEANS THERE IS HIGH CONFIDENCE THAT CRITICAL
FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS WILL OCCUR. FIRE CREWS AND OFFICIALS
SHOULD MONITOR THE WEATHER TRENDS AND BE PREPARED TO SEEK SAFE
AREAS WHEN THUNDERSTORMS DEVELOP. CONTINUE TO CHECK
WEATHER.GOV/RENO FOR UPDATES.

A FIRE WEATHER WATCH MEANS THERE IS MEDIUM CONFIDENCE THAT
CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS WILL OCCUR.
