New Evacuations in the Cocos Fire

At about 1:30 p.m., the Sheriff’s Department used Alert SanDiego to contact about 13,000 homes, business and cell phones in areas including Harmony Grove, western Escondido south of Highway 78 and north of Via Rancho Parkway and the Del Dios area north of Lake Hodges because of the Cocos Fire. Shortly after that, the Escondido Police Department used Alert San Diego to make about 7,500 contacts in the city’s jurisdiction. Evacuated residents can go to Mission Hills High School at 1 Mission Hills Court or Escondido High School at 1535 North Broadway.
Residents are urged to call 2-1-1 for all non-emergency calls and visit www.sdcountyemergency.com for updates online.

Update 5-15-14 1115: 700+ acres, 0% Extreme Fire Behavior  IC requested 5 strikes teams of any type, aircraft NO divert due to immediate life threat, long range spotting 
Update 1915: VLAT on scene, 400 acres.
Update 1645: T-910 VLAT requested from Santa Maria Tanker Base to the Washitonia Fire
Update 1600: Cal State University San Marcos is evacuating campus.

Location: 3-5 Miles north of Lake Hodges off of Twin Oaks road,Village Drive and Twin Oaks Road, San Marcos.
The blaze erupted for unknown reasons in the area of Cocos Drive about 3:45 p.m., sheriff's Lt. Dave Brown said.
