Update 3-22-14 1700: 1724 acres are final estimated acres
Fire is burning in the Golden Trout Wilderness in Sequoia National Forest,
Firefighters have been instructed on special tactics to reduce their impact on the environment while keeping safety as their number one priority. Firefighters were shuttled out of the fire by helicopter.
Update 3-22-14 0800: Fire did not grow significantly overnight. With continued drought conditions, and concern for lingering smoke in nearby communities, fire officials have decided to insert firefighters on the fireline and stop it from spreading any further.
They will utilize the helicopter for water drops on the hottest parts of the fire. The priority is firefighter safety; they will be flown out at night.
Efforts will be made to protect the wilderness quality of the area. Fire crews have been instructed on special tactics to reduce their impact on the environment while keeping safety as their number one priority.
Update 1-27-14 0800: 1132 acres and is 0% contained
Update 1-22-14 0800: 676 acres and is 0% contained. Monitored fire by air. Completed mapping and Recon missions. Fire growth was only 8 acres last operational period.
Minimal fire behavior was observed most of the growth was concentrated to the west flank of the fire.
Update 1-20-14 1800: 668 acres and is 0% contained. All fire is contained to the ground in the understory Continue to monitor the fire by air.
Update 1-19-14 0800: 515 acres and is 0% contained. Aircraft was able to land and insert a Fire Investigator today. hand-crews cutting access trail.
Update 1-18-14 1800: Start date 1/14 515 acres. 0% contained.
Update 1-15-14 0800: 10 acres
Fire is surrounded by snow banks.
Update 1-16-14 0800: Approx. 180 acres. Still monitor only status at this time due to inability to safely insert firefighters. The fire grew at a slow to moderate rate in the understory.Update 1-15-14 0800: 10 acres
