Mariposa evacuations from from E Westfall to Chowchilla Mt Rd to Oliver Creek, evacuation center Woodland School.

Update 1630: IC reports still 4 acres in heavy woodland and brush, 1/2 acre spot fire is the same, continue resources until they can get a better handle on it, but they are making progress, trying to get rotor wing on the incident.
Update 1545: Fire jumped Westfall road, IC asking for Immediate Need 3 Charlie ST's, 2 dozers, 2 ST's Just spotted across E. Westfall Rd. A large resource order being placed.

Update 1530: Per Westfall IC, they are going to try and keep the fire between: Highway 49 on the South, Chowchilla Mountain Road on the West, Oliver Creek Drainage on the East and East Westfall Road on the North. Requesting 2 County Engines immediate need for structure protection. CHP Requested for Traffic Control.
Update 1515: 4 acres, multiple spot fires, 3-4 structures threatened, AA 440 at scene.

How fires get their names

Every year in California thousands of wildfires start throughout the state. In most cases, the dispatch center sending the initial resources to a wildland fire will designate a name for the fire, but the first on scene engine or fire official can also name the incident. Fires are usually named for the area in which they start – a geographical location, local landmark, street, lake, mountain, peak, etc. Quickly naming the fire provides responding fire resources with an additional locater, and allows fire officials to track and prioritize incidents by name. For example during the Southern California Fire Siege of 2003, the largest wildland fire in California history, the Cedar Fire in San Diego County, was named after the Cedar Creek Falls area where it started. The destructive Old Fire, which burned during the same time period in San Bernardino County, was named after the road along which it started - Old Waterman Canyon Road.
