CONCORD, Calif. — A woman was rescued by firefighters from a storm drain in Concord on Sunday after she climbed in and refused to come out, a county fire official said.
Crews responded to the 1200 block of Concord Avenue at about 1:30 p.m. to find a distraught woman inside of a vertical storm drain, Contra Costa County Fire Prevention District Fire Marshal Lewis Broschard said.
She had removed the storm drain grate and crawled into the 15-feet deep and 3-feet wide drain, he said.
She was removed by Concord Fire Dept. Confined Space Rescue Team after about an hour and was transported to a local hospital with no apparent injuries, Broschard said.
