USFS: Whiskeytown National Recreation Area Prescribed Burn Today

Forest officials plan to continue controlled burns on Wednesday of about 40 acres of pine and oak woodland at Whiskeytown National Recreation Area.
The burn will be between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m., with some limited burndown and smoke expected an additional one to three days after.
The park started burn activities in the area Jan. 22 and completed a 15-acre unit above Old Shasta. The activities are part of a park strategy to improve neighboring communities’ resilience and local fire agencies’ ability to respond to wildfires.

****REMINDER**** Every fire has the ability to be catastrophic. The wildland fire management environment has profoundly changed. Growing numbers of communities, across the nation, are experiencing longer fire seasons; more frequent, bigger, and more severe, fires are a real threat. Be careful with all campfires and equipment.

"I am a firm believer in the people. If given the truth, they can be depended upon to meet any national crisis. The great point is to bring them the real facts, and beer." --Abraham Lincoln
