Thank you for your service Sir!.

Pilot Duane "Sharky" Cornell in Tanker 86 just before his final departure from CAL FIRE's Columbia Air Attack Base.

The water salute is a longstanding tradition for pilots on their last flight. It is with great appreciation for his dedicated years of service to the citizens of California that CAL FIRE congratulates Air Tanker Pilot Duane "Sharky" Cornell on his retirement.

  1. Sharky was/is an exceptional pilot. He really could make those S-2's dance.

****REMINDER**** Every fire has the ability to be catastrophic. The wildland fire management environment has profoundly changed. Growing numbers of communities, across the nation, are experiencing longer fire seasons; more frequent, bigger, and more severe, fires are a real threat. Be careful with all campfires and equipment.

"I am a firm believer in the people. If given the truth, they can be depended upon to meet any national crisis. The great point is to bring them the real facts, and beer." --Abraham Lincoln
