Battling a fire at the Ronald B. Robie Power Plant in Thermalito (Butte County). The fire is well established in the 5 story building and crews will be at scene for multiple days.

Firefighters cannot do much to fight a fire burning in an underground control room of a California Department of Water Resources power plant near Oroville, Oroville and Chico Fire Departments are providing Mutual Aid.

The five story blaze started around 7:32 a.m., with crews finding the second floor control room under “heavy fire.” Officials note that the fire is affecting 4 below-ground stories along with an above-ground level.
Oroville and Chico Fire crews, along with Butte County Fire Volunteers, made multiple attacks on the inside, but were forced to focus their efforts outside thanks to the dangers of the power plant.
A fire extinguisher system looks to have activated before firefighters made their attack, but it did not stop the blaze.
Officials note that the blaze will require personnel to stay at the scene for “several” days. The exact cause of the blaze has not been determined yet.

****REMINDER**** Every fire has the ability to be catastrophic. The wildland fire management environment has profoundly changed. Growing numbers of communities, across the nation, are experiencing longer fire seasons; more frequent, bigger, and more severe, fires are a real threat. Be careful with all campfires and equipment.

"I am a firm believer in the people. If given the truth, they can be depended upon to meet any national crisis. The great point is to bring them the real facts, and beer." --Abraham Lincoln
