Public Safety Agencies, First Responders and Military Equipment on Display at Wings Wheels & Rotors
Sunday, 28 October. Los Alamitos Army Airfield, JFTB. 11200 Lexington Dr, Los Alamitos, CA. 90720
You know about the Wings, Wheels, Rotors & Expo 2012 big names like the USAF C-17, Helicopter Rides, free Experimental Aircraft Association's Young Eagle Airplane rides for the youth, vendors for every type of food you can imagine, the 500 Classic and Antique Cars and the multiple paid vendors with all types of wares. But very few realize that WWRE is full of very special displays and things to do.A whole area on the flightline shows a combination of military weapons systems and military displays in combination with First Responders and Public Safety Agencies
from all over the Southern California.
The military displays will include an actual Navy Patrol boat with mounted weapons systems that guests can climb aboard and see what it is like actually being on a Navy Boat searching for pirates and smugglers. This was the highlight of this special area last year. The kids love it!
The military "Shadow" remote controlled airplane with instant video feedback that scans the terrain looking for enemy forces will be on display for everyone to see and be briefed on its capabilities. These are only two examples of the many military hands on displays that will be available in area G. Kids and youth of all ages will be spending a lot of time here.
"Kid's Corner" is where the younger generation can come to color, draw, get hand-outs, toys and just spend 15 minutes being a kid. Kid's Corner is a great place for moms to come for a little shade and a little time to rest while the kids are being occupied by an army of volunteers . The kids and youth will also enjoy the California National Guard's huge Army "Obstacle Course", which is right next door to Kid's Corner". They can play, jump, climb, crawl, and do pull-ups, jumping jacks, push-ups and simulated hand-to-hand combat. Fifteen minutes of the obstacle course will take all that energy from lightning speed to a fast walk. The course is supervised by California National Guard Service Member volunteers who love to work with youth.
WWRE 2012 will have dozens of "First Responder" displays, demos and booths from local and regional police, fire and rescue units as well as many specialized disaster relief organizations.
We will have over 20 police departments and fire departments displaying their fire engines, rescue units, boat patrol units, K9 units, SWAT units and much more unique public service equipment. The Police Emergency Command Post & Certified Emergency Trainer will be one of the highlights.
In addition, the VA Veterans Assistance Van will be available to answer questions from all veterans. The U. S. Army Corps of Engineers will have their brand new emergency response command vehicle on display for everyone to see. It has state-of-the-art communications and computer systems installed. The vehicle was just purchased and has the newest of all the technology. The California Emergency Management Agency will have a display plus their mobile command post.
The Lions Club of Seal Beach, the VFW and many, many more civilian and military community service organizations will be showing off their wares and services on Los Alamitos Army Airfield.
