Nevada: NLT Fire Protection District to begin prescribed burns

Prescribed Burn Season to Start Week of October 15, 2012

North Lake Tahoe Fire Protection District is gearing up to begin prescribed burning sometime next week, depending on weather conditions and local as well as regional resource availability.

"If the weather conditions are within prescription perimeters, conditions might lend themselves to the Fire District's first burn of the season next week", said Division Chief Norb Szczurek.
The Fire District wants to assure residents that if any one of several conditions that must be met in order to conduct a controlled burn is not within prescription, the district will not move forward with the projected burn.

For folks that are smoke sensitive, we recommend shutting all doors and windows and remaining inside as much as possible until any lingering smoke has dissipated.

****REMINDER**** Every fire has the ability to be catastrophic. The wildland fire management environment has profoundly changed. Growing numbers of communities, across the nation, are experiencing longer fire seasons; more frequent, bigger, and more severe, fires are a real threat. Be careful with all campfires and equipment.
