Post Measure D Fire Protection
Groveland, CA -- Tuolumne County is helping to find the best way to continue fire services in Groveland, after the Measure D fire tax went down in defeat last month.
As it stands right now, the Groveland Community Services District has allocated funding to keep the department running through August 2nd, as there is a significant long-term shortfall. Representatives from GCSD recently met with Supervisor John Gray, county staff members, and local CAL Fire Chief Brian Kirk about the possibility of GCSD contracting with CAL Fire for services.
County documents show that Chief Kirk told the group that it would take around a year for a contract to be finalized and commence the service. A much quicker route is to amend the existing contract between CAL Fire and the Tuolumne County Fire Department.
The Tuolumne County Supervisors voted 5-0 this week to request a formal proposal for fire services, on behalf of GCSD, in relation to the existing contract with Tuolumne County Fire. The County and GCSD plan to hear back from CAL Fire by August 2nd, the date of its next GCSD board meeting. More will be known in the coming weeks.
