CHP 2008 Ford Crown Victoria Burns On 710 Freeway Today - Unknown Cause

CHP cruiser catches fire on Long Beach Freeway

MONTEREY PARK - A California Highway Patrol car caught fire on the southbound Long Beach (710) Freeway in Monterey Park, authorities said today.
Firefighters responded to the blaze at 11:26 p.m. Wednesday, said Los Angeles County fire dispatch supervisor Phil Ulloa.
An officer in the 2008 Ford Crown Victoria had been stopped near the Casar Chavez Avenue offramp for about 10 minutes when smoke began wafting coming from the vehicle at 11:23 p.m., according to a CHP incident report.
The officer exited the car, saw flames under the engine, and within seconds the vehicle was fully engulfed, the report said.
All weapons and ammunition were safely removed from the vehicle, said CHP officer Anthony Martin.
What was left of the vehicle was taken to the CHP's East Los Angeles area office in Monterey Park, he said.
The cause of the fire was being investigated.

****REMINDER**** Every fire has the ability to be catastrophic. The wildland fire management environment has profoundly changed. Growing numbers of communities, across the nation, are experiencing longer fire seasons; more frequent, bigger, and more severe, fires are a real threat. Be careful with all campfires and equipment.

"I am a firm believer in the people. If given the truth, they can be depended upon to meet any national crisis. The great point is to bring them the real facts, and beer." --Abraham Lincoln
