CAL FIRE: Stolen CAL FIRE utility service truck recovered

Authorities tonight found a California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection service truck that was reported stolen this afternoon from a service center in Indio.

The Chevrolet 3500 was taken about 1:45 p.m. from the CalFire service facility at 47-335 Oasis St., Indio police spokesman Ben Guitron said.

Riverside County sheriff's deputies found it about 7:45 p.m. in a shopping center parking lot at Avenue 48 and Jackson Street in Indio - about "a block and a half from where it was taken," Guitron said.

He did not know the truck's condition or where it was being stored tonight.

The service facility is surrounded by walls and only accessible through a gate.

Investigators do not know how the truck was taken and have not identified any suspects, Guitron said.

****REMINDER**** Every fire has the ability to be catastrophic. The wildland fire management environment has profoundly changed. Growing numbers of communities, across the nation, are experiencing longer fire seasons; more frequent, bigger, and more severe, fires are a real threat. Be careful with all campfires and equipment.

"I am a firm believer in the people. If given the truth, they can be depended upon to meet any national crisis. The great point is to bring them the real facts, and beer." --Abraham Lincoln
