CAL FIRE - Burn Suspension in Effect for Madera, Mariposa & Merced Counties

CAL FIRE MMU BURN BAN - Madera-Mariposa-Merced unit has announced the suspension of all burning in Madera, Mariposa, and Merced counties effective Thursday morning, February 9th. This burn suspension is in effect due to the prolonged dry conditions that exist across the counties and the frequency of escaped hazard reduction burns.

CAL FIRE will continue to monitor and evaluate local fire weather conditions, and the burn suspension will be lifted as soon as conditions are safe to do so.

California lends itself to severe wildfire conditions year round with its unique climate and topography. With the fire danger above average for this time of year, the potential for large and damaging fires remain. Even though all of the counties have experienced cooler temperatures, recent dry winds and lack of rain has increased the wild-land fire danger.

****REMINDER**** Every fire has the ability to be catastrophic. The wildland fire management environment has profoundly changed. Growing numbers of communities, across the nation, are experiencing longer fire seasons; more frequent, bigger, and more severe, fires are a real threat. Be careful with all campfires and equipment.

"I am a firm believer in the people. If given the truth, they can be depended upon to meet any national crisis. The great point is to bring them the real facts, and beer." --Abraham Lincoln
