OROVILLE -- A Butte County volunteer firefighter has been charged with setting a series of fires that damaged a historic inn and two other local landmarks.
Fire Chief George Morris said 31-year-old Jiro Perkins-Grubbs was arrested Tuesday night by Cal-Fire officials who helped investigate the arsons at the Lovelock Inn, De Sabla Market and old Magalia train depot.
Morris says Jiro Perkins-Grubbs also has been charged with setting three wildland fires dating back to July.
Perkins-Grubbs is being held at the Butte County jail on $700,000 bail. A jail official did not know if he had retained a lawyer.
Morris called any arson reprehensible, but that Perkins Grubb's alleged crimes were compounded by his association with the fire department.

****REMINDER**** Every fire has the ability to be catastrophic. The wildland fire management environment has profoundly changed. Growing numbers of communities, across the nation, are experiencing longer fire seasons; more frequent, bigger, and more severe, fires are a real threat. Be careful with all campfires and equipment.
