OAKLEY -- An early morning fire on a boat moored near Bethel Island destroyed five boats and required the rescue of two people from the water.
The fire was controlled in about two hours, Henderson said. The fire department used four engines, a water tanker and a fire boat to put out the blaze.
About 30 minutes after the call, the haze and smoke going downwind prompted some boaters on other vessels to jump into the water, Henderson said. Two people were rescued from the water by the Coast Guard and the Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office.
No one was seriously injured by the fire.
The cause of the fire and the estimated value of the damage are under investigation, Henderson said.
