CAL FIRE/Riverside County Fire Department Chief John R. Hawkins is pleased to announce the selection of our new Public Information Officer, Captain Mike Smith.
On November 15, 2010, Captain Smith began his new assignment in the CAL FIRE/Riverside County Fire Department Public Affairs and Education Bureau. -The candidates who interviewed for this position were all well-qualified. I am certain that Captain Smith¿s depth and well-rounded fire service experience will prove a great asset to our Public Affairs and Education team,- said Chief Hawkins.
Mike Smith began his fire service career with CAL FIRE in 1992 as a Seasonal Firefighter. In 1995, he promoted to Firefighter II and shortly afterward, promoted to Fire Apparatus Engineer on Truck 33 in Palm Desert, where he was stationed until 1998.
Mike promoted to Fire Captain in 2000, where he held positions in fire stations in Indio, Moreno Valley, and the Ben Clark Regional Training Center. Mike Smith earned his Associates Degree in Fire Science from Crafton Hills College.
