Drill Manuals, Calendar, and other resources
  • Schools: Be sure to look for the resources on the ShakeOut.org/schools page, including drill planning documents and checklists, take-home materials, and educational curricula.  Next week a more comprehensive set of curricular resources will be added.
  • Simple drill instructions for a variety of ShakeOut participant categories are at ShakeOut.org/howtoparticipate, including custom preparedness information and suggestions for how you can share the ShakeOut with others.
  • To help organizations plan their drill, we have created drill manuals for K-12 Schools, Businesses, Non Profits and Other Organizations, and for Government Agencies and Facilities. These can be adapted for use by other organizations as well. Each manual has instructions for multiple levels of drills, from a very basic Drop, Cover, and Hold On drill to a more comprehensive exercise of your disaster plan. Download the manuals from the ShakeOut Resources page, where you can also download posters, flyers, and other materials.
  • A calendar of events is now at Shakeout.Org/calendar, and more events are being added daily. Use the "contact us" form to describe other events that should be listed.
  • Information about the ShakeOut and earthquake preparedness is available in multiple languages and a full version of the website is in Spanish.
  • If you have recently registered, you can read past editions of updates like this at ShakeOut.org/updates.
Is your drill a potential ShakeOut Media Venue?
If your drill on October 21 will include interesting visuals or activities and will be suitable for the news media to attend, please email info@shakeout.org. We are organizing a master list of such venues to provide to the news media in advance. Include your current plans for your drill, and describe any media outreach you have done or plan to do. Please include your full contact information, as we will contact you before adding your event to the list.

****REMINDER**** Every fire has the ability to be catastrophic. The wildland fire management environment has profoundly changed. Growing numbers of communities, across the nation, are experiencing longer fire seasons; more frequent, bigger, and more severe, fires are a real threat. Be careful with all campfires and equipment.

"I am a firm believer in the people. If given the truth, they can be depended upon to meet any national crisis. The great point is to bring them the real facts, and beer." --Abraham Lincoln
