Fairfield: 4 children killed, 2 adults injured in blaze

FAIRFIELD, Calif. (AP) — Fire officials say four children have been killed and two adults injured in an apartment building fire in Fairfield.

Fairfield Assistant Fire Marshal Jerry Clark says when fire crews reached the single-story fourplex around 9:10 p.m. Wednesday they found three of the children dead at the scene.

The fourth child was rushed to a hospital but died there from injuries.

Clark says two adult females were burned in the fire. One suffered burns to her hands. He did not know the extent of the injuries to the second adult.

Fire officials say they don't yet know the ages of the dead and injured or if they were related.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

****REMINDER**** Every fire has the ability to be catastrophic. The wildland fire management environment has profoundly changed. Growing numbers of communities, across the nation, are experiencing longer fire seasons; more frequent, bigger, and more severe, fires are a real threat. Be careful with all campfires and equipment.

"I am a firm believer in the people. If given the truth, they can be depended upon to meet any national crisis. The great point is to bring them the real facts, and beer." --Abraham Lincoln
